Brian Cage recently participated in an Q & A on Reddit. Here are some highlights from the Q & A……

How different does it feel doing inter-gender matches? Is there anything different about it compared to your regular same sex match?

“For me, no. I’m going to go out there and kill my opponent, and if my opponent happens to be a girl, sucks for them. Gotta keep it fair across the board.”

I read that you were managed by Paul Bearer on the Indies, what was he like to be around?

“Phenomenal guy. Just such a great dude. Really positive. He’s a legend in the business and the very first promo he cut on us to put us over was awesome. I was happy that I got to know and work with him before he passed. It was an honor.”

There has been some criticism of the inter-gender matches on Lucha Underground. What were your thoughts when they came to you about doing the match with Taya and what are your opinions of inter gender matches on the whole?

“The inter-gender matches have been well done in LU, transcending equality. It’s two superheros. It is still believable, but not in a way that’s insulting. I think the matches are greatly produced, and I actually love my match with Taya, and it made me look like a savage and when they first brought it up I thought it was a joke but it was booked so well. It goes back to earlier how I was saying that we are transforming wrestling.”

What was it like training under the late Chris Kanyon? Do you think that now that homosexuality is more accepted in society than it was when he was attempting to be out and have a career that he’d be more successful than he was at the time? Society has evolved so much on the issue from the time that he came out to the time that Darren Young came out, and the two situations were treated as if they happened 100 years apart..

“I don’t know how much difference it would have been. His issues with wrestling and what was going on extended further than him just being gay. When he came out… there were a lot of variables. Needless to say, with regards to Kanyon, he was extremely underrated no doubt, and was a good friend.”
