The year 2016 did not start out very well for John Cena. The 15-time World Heavyweight Champion was sidelined earlier this year with a shoulder injury that required a surgery that would keep him on the bench for around nine months. With many top superstars such as Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and Cesaro on the shelf at the time as well, Cena’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time since this meant that he had to miss the entirety of the road to Wrestlemania. Of course, the Cenation leader made a surprise appearance at the Showcase of the Immortals to help The Rock even the odds against the Wyatt Family, but he wasn’t making a full-time return to the squared circle that night. However, the man himself revealed earlier today when we’d be actually be seeing that happen.
Throughout his career, John Cena has been known to heal extremely fast after sustaining an injury. Apparently, that happens to be the case with his most recent ailment as well. In a tweet from the superstar earlier today, he revealed that his recovery time from his latest surgery was cut from nine months to five. And along with this news came the announcement that Cena would return to Monday Night Raw in just over a month:
They said the surgery recovery time is 9 months, but I’m ready to go in 5. This #MemorialDay Cena is back on #Raw. #NeverGiveUp

Without a doubt, the WWE Universe (most of them anyway) will be glad to see Cena finally get back in the ring. Although, the landscape of the WWE has changed greatly since the last time he stepped in the ring for a match. Roman Reigns has thwarted Triple H and The Authority to ascended to the top of the WWE ladder to become THE guy. NXT standouts like Sami Zayn, Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin, and more have descended upon the main roster and have quickly made an impact. And, perhaps the biggest change of them all, A.J. Styles has finally made his way to the WWE after becoming an international sensation and the franchise player for a number of promotions. Could Cena have his sights set on Styles when he returns so that they could put on this dream match that has been over a decade in the making? We’ll have to wait until May 30th to truly learn what the former Doctor of Thuganomics’ intentions are, but until then, share your speculation about John Cena’s comeback plans in the comments.
