Since debuting on the Wrestlemania 32 fallout episode of Raw earlier this year, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady have made a huge impact on the WWE Universe. Not only did they step up to the biggest dogs in the yard when they confronted the Dudley Boyz, but the realest guys in the room went on to defeat the 23-time world tag team champions to land in the finals of a tournament to determine the number one contenders to The New Day’s WWE World Tag Team Championship. However, long-time fans of NXT will notice that they’ve managed to reach this level of success without a member of their team. Unfortunately, when Enzo and Big Cass were called up to the main roster, their manager Carmella didn’t come along for the ride. There could be a number of reasons for this decision, but the Princess of Staten Island doesn’t seem to mind.
During a recent interview with WWE.com, Carmella shared her excitement for this new chapter in her career that finds her flying solo without the Certified Gs. While she may be extremely proud of her boys, the most fabulous superstar in NXT made it known that she can be more than a manager or a valet. In fact, we’ve seen her mix it up in the past with some of the women’s division’s elite, including then-champion (and Carmella’s best friend) Bayley. But now that she’s on her own, the former Laker Girl has shifted her focus and set her sights on the NXT Women’s Championship once again:
“My entire NXT career has been alongside Cass & Enzo. Of course, it would have been nice to be out there and relish in the moment of their debut on the night after WrestleMania with them. But, I’m here to be a Superstar and an in-ring performer. I’ve been training for over two years in the ring now. A lot of the fans don’t necessarily get to see what I can do, because they’ve seen me as the hype girl for Cass & Enzo.
I’m here to compete at a higher level. I want to be NXT Women’s Champion. Unfortunately, I can’t do everything. I can’t be with them and take over the NXT Women’s division at the same time. Of course, it’s a little sad to not be with them, but it’s a super-exciting time for me to break out on my own.”
She certainly has the right attitude, but the Women’s Division in NXT is tougher than it’s been in years. Aside from the hard-hitting champion Asuka, mainstays like Alexa Bliss, Eva Marie, and Nia Jax are doing everything they can to reach the top of the mountain. Fierce newcomers like Liv Morgan, Peyton Royce, and Billie Kay aren’t making things any easier either. And of course there’s always the possibility of #Baymella facing off again. But with an exciting opportunity to refocus, Carmella has the chance to prove that she’s more Enzo & Big Cass’ hot as hell cohort. And you can’t teach that.
