One of the hottest Independent stars in the world, The Product David Starr has written the following expressing what pro wrestling means to him:
“What Pro Wrestling Means to Me”
I read that title, and there are so many different directions that this could take me.
However, at the end of it all it all leads back to the same thing. Pro wrestling makes me complete.
When I was 21 years old, there was a void in my life. I was on the precipice of being just another face in society. I was going to be someone that woke up, went to work, paid bills, then eventually died. I knew life was more than that. I knew I had a true purpose and that was to be an entertainer through the physical art form that is pro wrestling.
Some people will read that and say, “How ridiculous! What purpose does pro wrestling serve?!” I could go on and on about how pro wrestling has taken me from a deep dark place, how it has helped me learn who I really am, how it has forced me to mature and truly take control of what I do.
But I’d rather discuss how my work has inspired others. This is not necessarily intentional and this is definitely not a Barry Horowitz style pat on the back, but it makes it all worth it when I hear the countless fans tell me, and many of my peers, that our work has taken THEM from a dark place. It’s helped teach THEM who they are. It’s made THEM mature and take control of what they do and who they are.
Entertainment, art, sport, whatever you want to call it; pro wrestling is bigger than anyone realizes. It’s an escape. It is perfect.
That’s what pro wrestling means to me.
